As a GIS Field Technician, you’ll be an essential part of our team, supporting the collection, development, and analysis of spatial data for municipal transportation projects. This hands-on role offers the chance to work alongside engineers, planners, and scientists, gaining real-world GIS experience while developing skills through mentorship and cross-training opportunities.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the collection of field data and perform asset inspections
- Perform field measurements including but not limited to roadway, sidewalks, curb ramps, and other municipal infrastructure within the Right of Way
- Take ownership of daily field operations, including planning, coordinating, and executing data collection to meet project goals
- Edit and validate the collected data under the guidance of the project manager
- Help build and maintain geographic databases, tables, forms, and reports that bring municipal data to life
- Collaborate closely with engineers, planners, and other staff to ensure project deliverables meet high-quality standards
- Use cutting-edge technology like tablets, GPS devices, and GIS software to capture, manage, and analyze data efficiently
Requirements
Required Experience/Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree program in GIS, Geography, Geology, Planning, Civil Engineering, or a related field
- 1 to 3 years of related GIS experience
- GIS principles, concepts, and applications
- Proficient in the use of current technology (i.e., tablets, smart phones, laptops, etc.)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong technical aptitude with an eagerness to learn
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Must be able to collect field data and measurements including but not limited to roadway, sidewalk, and utility assets; and perform asset inspections
- Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
- Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
- Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- ESRI Suite (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS online, etc.) to create and publish map services
- Working knowledge of GPS equipment

$60,000-$70,000 or commensurate
