About The Early Learning Centre

Toronto Metropolitan University’s School of Early Childhood Studies prepares students for a range of careers working with young children and their families, as well as in the areas of early childhood research and policy.

The Early Learning Centre (ELC) is the School's licensed laboratory early learning and care centre. The ELC offers a program for children ages sixteen months to five years and serves as a unique demonstration model of exemplary practice in early learning. Staff endeavour to maintain excellent relationships with the children and families through an active Parent Advisory Committee, social events, and daily interactions. The ELC is an active learning environment for students in the Early Childhood Studies degree program. Many students complete their field education experiences in the ELC. Students also visit the ELC to observe children and early childhood educators to gain skills in observations and to learn about curriculum for the early years. The ELC accommodates visitors and students from a variety of programs. The ELC is a site for research and innovation in early childhood.
