Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the Chief Schools Officer.

Position Overview

This position works in close partnership with leadership, LUMIN’s Board of Directors, staff, families, and students to advance the school’s mission of empowering and equipping all children for brilliant futures through a Christ-centered, academically excellent environment. The Principal provides both spiritual and instructional leadership, ensuring the faithful implementation of LUMIN’s curriculum and systems to drive strong academic outcomes, develop students’ faith, and prepare them to make responsible decisions and contribute to their communities.

Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

School Operations

  • Participate and provide input into the LUMIN Academic Plan. Implement, execute, measure, and supervise at the individual school level. Maintain school metrics as defined in the Academic Plan. Ensure ongoing review and communication of the metrics with school personnel.
  • Work cooperatively and interact positively with students, parents, staff and community.
  • Oversee the school discipline and family relations.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Schools Officer and Director of Schools in the implementation of appropriate classroom teaching methodologies and support the professional development of staff through interactive and continuous communication:

=Observe teachers and meet with them individually to give ongoing, coaching, professional development, and productive feedback.

=Work with teachers to assist them in creating their daily lesson plans to include: teaching, analysis of student data, and assessing student outcomes.

  • Responsible for overall enrollment success, which will include implementing a marketing plan and assisting with coordination and execution of the student orientation and registration activities, where appropriate.
  • High presence and availability to all students, faculty and parents.

Maintain responsibility for the operational and fiscal management of the school. -Specifically, participate in the development of the annual budget. Hold responsibility for the school’s budget, including setting spending limits and approving all expenditures.

  • Approve hourly payroll.
  • Ensure school Administrative Assistants are complying with the procedures and processes instituted by the Director of Compliance in relation to the Milwaukee Parental Choice program and private pay admissions.
  • Member of the LUMIN Educational Leadership Team.

Administrative

  • Establish and implement a positive, faithbased school culture. Be a model for this culture, which will provide students with structure, achievements, and creativity in the classroom.
  • Provide supervision and oversight of school operations and staff. Ensure compliance of all policy and procedures related to human resources practices; supervision and coaching of all school staff, including hiring and terminations.
  • Organize and present staff development activities and inservices for all school faculty.
  • Supervise extracurricular activities, as needed.
  • Communicate about the Title program and funds with the CSO when appropriate.
  • Oversee suspensions and expulsions.

Experience and Requirements

  • Must believe in Christianbased philosophy and principles and extend those to students and families.
  • Master’s degree in Education field preferred.
  • Valid principal’s license for level of position preferred.
  • 25 years of classroom teaching experience in an urban setting.
  • Continuous commitment to advancing student achievement and future readiness.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work in a professional manner with an urban population of children, youth and adults.
  • Possess the ability to establish a rapport with youth, parents and other staff, while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and strong interpersonal skills with students, parents, colleagues and community members.
  • Ability to communicate and work in multiple settings and environments.
  • Possesses a growth mindset.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time, depending on work tasks.
  • Comfortable in multiple environments from classroom to office setting.
  • Willingness to meet students and parents in their home.

Exemption Status

Exempt/Salaried (full time; 12-months; flexibility of hours for some nights and weekend activities)

Salary: $90,000 and up for years of experience, advanced degrees, w/ ability to make more as you grow.
