Job Summary: The Corporate Joining Engineer reports to the Corporate Joining Manager and is responsible for the development, design, validation, and implementation of joining processes for assembly systems within the Metallics Business Unit. This role provides technical expertise to support product launches, process development, and continuous improvement initiatives within the Metallics Business Unit.
Required Education and Experience:
- Post-Secondary Education (Community College or Undergrad Degree) in one of the following:
- Welding Engineering
- Manufacturing (Automation and Tooling)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in joining, manufacturing, automation, and tooling environments
- Demonstrated experience with multiple joining technologies, including:
- RSW, GMAW, RPW, DAW, LBW, HLAW, FDS, SPR, FSW, Adhesive and Clinch joining, Aluminum, Steel, Galvanized Coated Steel, HSLA, Boron, Hot Stamped, and GEN III materials
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Effective time management and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Working knowledge of CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA
Essential Functions:
- Provide technical guidance and support the development, design, build, and implementation of joining processes associated with manufacture and launch of automated assembly/joining systems
- Apply corporate and customer joining standards to all assigned projects
- Provide authoritative advice in product / process validation and verification strategies
- Oversee the specification and purchase of capital joining equipment
- Support R&D activities, developing new processes to implement highly capable and effective manufacturing strategies
- Collaborate with product engineering, manufacturing engineering, tooling, and automation teams to develop robust joining solutions
- Support new business quoting initiatives by delivering joining technology presentations and discussions with potential customers
- Support process validation, trials, and run-at-rate activities at vendor and plant sites
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging joining technologies, and material advancements
- Abide by all Company polices including, but not limited to the following: Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human Resources policies, and the Martinrea Employee Handbook
Work Environment:
- 50% Office environment, 50% Vendor and R&D Center
Physical Demands:
- Plant floor (PPE required)
Health and Safety:
- Must work in accordance with Health and Safety regulations, Company and plant rules, policies and procedures
- Must use or wear Personal Protective Equipment and certain clothing as required by the Company
