The Solid Waste Management Division is seeking highly qualified individuals to fill the positions of "Equipment Operator III and IV". This is a skilled advanced work operating complex heavy construction and maintenance equipment. This position is responsible for the safe operation of the equipment and for performing routine safety checks and maintenance of the equipment is necessary.
Job Description
Representative Duties/Assignments:
Equipment Operator III/IV
- Performs routine safety inspection of assigned equipment.
- Performs minor maintenance duties to check oil, fuel, water and air as necessary, cleans and washes equipment.
- May set up barricades and act as spotter or flagman.
- Participates in general labor duties.
- Performs tasks in a variety of conditions, including adverse weather and environmental odors.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Operates complex equipment such as, but not limited to, backhoe (equal or less than 20 foot reach), front end loader (equal or less than three (3) yards), tandem dump truck, off-road dump truck, bulldozer, slope mower, side mower, batwing mower, asphalt distributor, finish asphalt roller, scraper pan, compactor, jetter, on - road tractor trailer, compost turner, water truck, self- loading sweeper, crane truck.
- Performs grading operations according to engineering specifications.
- Operates distributor to apply asphalt to road surface.
- Operates roller to patch or pave the road or other surfaces.
- Exercises skill in manipulating equipment to properly perform tasks.
- Drives on - road tractor - trailer to transport equipment to construction site.
- Operates complex heavy equipment such as, dragline, motor grader, front ¿ end loader (greater than three (3) yards), crane, backhoe (greater than 20-foot reach), trackhoe, excavator, yard dog and off - road tractor trailer at landfill or transfer station.
- Performs or supervises loading and unloading heavy equipment.
- May supervise assigned equipment operators or work crew on a project basis.
- Operates assigned equipment to dig ditches or canals.
- Loads materials, such as sand or rock on trucks.
- Performs more difficult finishing and grading operations to engineering specifications.
- Drives and maneuvers tractor trailers on yard dog at transfer stations and landfill for hauling and disposal operations.
- Coordinates utility line locations before excavating.
- Performs excavations to grade and slope.
- Performs work in accordance with engineering specifications.
- Drives on - road tractor - trailer between transfer station and landfill.
- Must be able to understand and carry out written and oral instructions
- Required to possess and maintain the appropriate valid Florida Commercial Driver's License for the type of equipment operated
- Required to possess (or obtain within six months of hire) the appropriate valid Florida Commercial Driver's License for the type of equipment operated
- Three (3) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of medium to heavy automotive, construction or maintenance equipment
- Four (4) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of medium to heavy automotive, construction or maintenance equipment
- Experience with dozers, compactors and tractor trailers

Pay Grade: 011 - From $19.00 to $24.12
Pay Grade: 012 - From $19.94 to $25.66
