Role Overview
Our client a scaling, private equity-backed construction services business is seeking an Assistant Accountant to support the day-to-day running of its finance function, working closely with the Group Financial Controller and Finance Manager.
This is a hands-on, onsite position that will play a key part in improving the quality, accuracy and efficiency of financial processes across the business. It is well suited to someone keen to develop their skills towards within a growing, operationally focused organisation.
The successful candidate will be organised, proactive and comfortable taking ownership. This is a busy environment where pace and accuracy both matter.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting Support
- Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts.
- Support balance sheet reconciliations and control account reviews.
- Contribute to variance analysis and regular reporting outputs.
Transactional Finance
- Support accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Assist in improving billing processes and reducing manual workload.
- Work with operational teams to support accurate job costing and revenue recognition.
Payroll & Expenses
- Assist with payroll processing and related reconciliations.
- Ensure expenses are processed accurately and in line with company policy.
Process Improvement
- Support the Group Financial Controller in implementing new processes and internal controls.
- Contribute to system improvements and integration initiatives.
- Help drive consistency and standardisation across finance activities.
General Finance Support
- Provide cover across the finance team during periods of leave or increased volume.
- Support audit preparation and year-end processes.
- Assist with ad hoc analysis and reporting as required.
Candidate Profile
Experience & Qualifications
- Part-qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) or qualified by experience.
- Commercial experience in a finance or accounting role.
- Strong understanding of core accounting fundamentals.
- Experience with accounting systems, Xero or similar preferred.
- Good Excel skills with high attention to detail.
