Founding Full Stack Engineer
Indexed description
Ester Health is building an at-home device that brings clinic-grade skin imaging into the bathroom. A mirror captures a clean, repeatable scan. An app turns it into a skin score the user actually trusts. The flagship metric — Ester Age — is the first of a roadmap of skin metrics the product will surface over time.
The company is venture-backed by a healthcare technology studio founded by the team behind GoodRx — a group with a track record of building and scaling category-defining consumer health products.
About the role
The mirror captures the image. The app is where the user actually lives — subscription, history, progress, the moment of 'oh, that's working' — and the services behind it are what turn a scan into something the user trusts. The API, the data path from device to result, the systems that hold up on a Tuesday morning when someone opens the app for the third time that week. We need the engineer who can hold all of that in their head and ship it.
You'll own the product end-to-end across the stack: mobile app, backend services, and the seams in between. Core flows, polish, performance, the connection to the device, the quality bar we hit on launch day. You'll work with a small senior team where product, design, and engineering live close together and the founder is still in the codebase.
The Job
- Build and ship across the stack — mobile flows, the services behind them, the glue that holds it together.
- Own UI polish, performance, reliability, and the edge cases nobody else is going to catch.
- Integrate with the device, the backend, and the ML pipeline as features come together across the stack.
- Turn rough product goals into shipped iterations, with the scope calls and tradeoffs that come with the territory.
- Hold the line on launch readiness: instrumentation, testing, stability.
Required Background:
- A full stack engineer with real mobile range. The unicorn here is someone who has shipped serious mobile and serious backend, and can move between them without losing the thread.
- Strong product taste and a bias to ship.
- Experience taking iOS (and ideally Android) features from sketch to App Store, plus comfort building and operating the services they call.
- Comfort with the chaos of early-stage — you don't need a PM to write your tickets.
- Solid fundamentals in debugging, performance, and product-quality craft.
- AI-native workflow for prototyping, debugging, and research, with the judgment to verify the output.
Preferred Background:
- Built a connected-device experience over Bluetooth or real-time capture.
- Shipped onboarding, retention, or subscription product surfaces and watched the metrics move.
- Background in consumer health, wellness, or beauty.
Logistics
- Hybrid in Santa Monica, two days per week onsite.
- Competitive base salary, founder-level equity, full benefits
- Interview: intro call, technical conversation, paid work trial on a real product surface, references.
