Senior Accountant
Senior Accountant – This role will be primarily responsible for assisting the Senior Fixed Asset Manager in the accurate accounting and reporting of fixed assets. This includes government funded properties and commercial assets, as well as monitoring the fixed assets of the company from acquisition, WIPs, and assets that are placed into operation, up to the time they are disposed, sold, and transferred. This role will be responsible for working cross functionally with procurement, lab personnel, IT, and others on updating and verifying asset tracking information in the asset database. The successful candidate will demonstrate extensive knowledge in GAAP. Additionally, this roll will support other accounting responsibilities, including balance sheet reconciliation. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and be comfortable working with operations team/non-accounting professionals and dealing with complex accounting/project codes/org codes.
Responsibilities
- Perform regular physical inventory counts of fixed assets and manage the asset tagging process
- Process asset addition, retirements, cost adjustments, capitalization
- Maintain a detailed schedule of work in process fixed assets and coordinate with purchase/receiving managers to provide monthly update on the status. Analyzes WIP assets by projects, capitalize and place assets in service when projects are complete
- Track all assets on books by location and summarize transfer of assets from one location to another by quarter
- Perform periodic impairment reviews for tangible and intangible assets
- Identify potential obsolescence of fixed assets, fully depreciated assets; provide recommendations to management regarding the disposal (or not) of fixed assets
- Perform analysis related to fixed assets; Analyze aging assets and prepare financial metrics on assets for monthly trial balance review
- Prepare audit schedules for fixed assets and support audit inquiries
- Prepare compliance reporting such as form SF-428 to DOE
- Support property insurance related activities such as preparation of the property schedule of value (SOV,) location, cost basis, replacement value
- Maintain schedules to support tax filing requirements, (i.e., property tax, sales/use tax, B&O tax.)
- Manage all aspects of maintaining and recording fixed assets. Analyzes asset requests to ensure proper classification as a capital asset at the onset of purchase order (PO) stage, and when invoices arrive, the GL classification is accurate and consistent with PO.
- Complete monthly, quarterly, and yearly reconciliations
- Perform cash transaction tracking and cash reconciliations
- Handle prepaids reconciliation in conjunction with on-site personnel
- Prepare journal entries, account analysis and reporting, including all Fixed Asset schedules
- Implement policies and procedures to help improve efficiency
- Apply general knowledge of accounting/government policies and procedures when responding to written and verbal inquiries from stakeholders
- Work closely with procurement and technical representatives to obtain data
- Support general ledger accounting including account reconciliations and journal entry posting
- Perform moderately complex accounting tasks/analysis, categorize data for reporting and audit purposes
- B.S. degree in Accounting or related field or the equivalent business-experience
- Minimum of 5 years' work experience in an accounting environment
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel and able to quickly adapt to other Finance and Accounting systems (i.e., Oracle)
- Experience and strong understanding of internal controls
- Working knowledge of government grant and/or government contracts is preferred.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented; high degree of accuracy
- Direct experience and familiarity with fixed assets inventory procedure is preferred.
- Capable of quickly comprehending new information and technologies
- Capable of working in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills, comfortable working with operations team/non-accounting professionals, dealing with complex accounting/project codes/org codes.
- Analytical/problem solving – ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Ability to prioritize and plan work activities.
- Must be team oriented, willing to operate within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.
- The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.

Job details
Salary Range: $87,686 - $131,529
- We typically place offers in the lower to middle portion of the range to maintain internal equity and allow room for growth. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected individual's qualifications experience. This range is specific to Washington State.
