What You’ll Do
- Serve as evening/overnight/weekend on-site contact person. Stay at the same housing facility as program participants (private room provided); host participants at the housing facility for evening/weekend socializing.
- Provide guidance and support to participants during evenings/weekends and overnight. Share experiences as a DMU student and answer questions/provide insight about attending medical/professional school as well as navigating the Des Moines metro area.
- Complete a two-hour training orientation prior to the start of the program on June 8, 2026.
- The Health P.A.S.S. Resident Assistant will be on-site at the housing facility from 8:00 p.m. each evening until 8:00 a.m. each morning (Sundays and weekdays) and from 6:00 p.m. Saturday to 8:00 a.m. Sunday. Some evening and weekend activities are planned, and the RA will be expected to participate and transport students as needed. At other times, the RA will be available on-site. Transportation of program participants (to and from Drake) will be a requirement through the duration of the program or from Friday, June 12 – Friday, June 26, 2026.
- In the event of an emergency, provide direction on appropriate action; contact appropriate emergency contact person or authorities as appropriate. (Emergency contact information for each participant will be provided.)
- Immediately report any inappropriate or concerning behavior on the part of participants to DMU Health P.A.S.S. Assistant Director or Chief Diversity Officer.
- Drive and accompany participants on scheduled group social outings (e.g. Iowa Cubs game, Gray’s Lake, etc.).
- Current enrollment as a DMU student in one of the five clinical programs (DO, DPM, DPT, PA, OTD) and be in good academic standing.
- Previous experience as a Resident Assistant preferred but not required.
- Have a clean driving record and possess valid class D driver’s license with active insurance. DMU will pay the total cost of the class D license if not already obtained.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills.
- Good time management, organizational, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
- Able to handle confidential information and demonstrate sound judgment.
- Knowledge of Des Moines and metro area are desirable.
