This role serves as a key client-facing tax compliance specialist responsible for managing and supporting sales tax nexus reviews, client transitions, and ongoing tax-related advisory work. You will act as the primary point of contact for clients, helping them navigate complex U.S. tax nexus requirements while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and a smooth client experience. The position combines analytical tax work with strong communication and relationship management in a fully remote, fast-paced environment. You will collaborate closely with internal tax, onboarding, and filing teams to ensure seamless execution of compliance processes. This is a highly detail-oriented role where your expertise directly impacts client tax exposure, compliance accuracy, and operational efficiency. It is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex tax problems while working closely with clients and cross-functional teams.
Accountabilities:
- Conduct annual and periodic sales tax nexus reviews, analyzing economic activity, presence factors, and compliance obligations across multiple jurisdictions.
- Serve as the main client contact for nexus-related inquiries, explaining findings, addressing concerns, and ensuring a clear and positive client experience.
- Manage client transitions including onboarding, offboarding, permit openings and closures, and related compliance documentation and processes.
- Collaborate with internal teams such as filing, onboarding, and tax specialists to ensure accurate setup and ongoing compliance for client accounts.
- Review and audit client tax projects and peer work to ensure accuracy, compliance, and continuous process improvement.
- Handle state-related tax documentation such as resale certificates, use tax assessments, and state nexus questionnaires.
- Identify workflow improvements and contribute to optimizing internal processes for better efficiency and client outcomes.
- 1–2 years of experience in tax, accounting, audit, project management, or related analytical roles, with exposure to U.S. tax concepts preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong proficiency in Excel and data analysis, including the use of formulas and structured data review.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly to non-technical clients.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving mindset, and ability to manage multiple client cases simultaneously.
- Ability to work proactively in a fast-paced, remote environment with strong time management and organizational skills.
- Client-facing experience with confidence in handling sensitive conversations and guiding clients through complex decisions.
