This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for building and scaling a modern tax function within a fast-growing, remote-first organization. The position combines strategic oversight with hands-on execution across U.S. direct and multistate indirect tax obligations. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance, optimizing tax strategy, and supporting business expansion into new markets and products. Acting as both a technical expert and functional builder, you will design scalable, audit-ready processes aligned with SOX requirements. The role requires close collaboration with Finance, Legal, FP&A, Product, and external advisors to ensure accurate reporting and efficient execution. This is an opportunity to shape the tax infrastructure of a high-growth digital health environment while driving both compliance excellence and operational efficiency.
Accountabilities:
- Lead the end-to-end tax function, including U.S. federal and state income tax compliance, franchise tax, and ASC 740 tax provision preparation, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting and disclosures.
- Oversee multistate indirect tax compliance, including sales and use tax, nexus assessments, registrations, filings, and audit defense across evolving jurisdictions.
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors and auditors, ensuring timely, cost-effective, and high-quality delivery of all tax-related outputs.
- Serve as the primary tax advisor across the organization, partnering with Finance, Legal, Product, FP&A, and People teams on strategic initiatives and business expansion.
- Design, implement, and maintain SOX-compliant tax processes, controls, and documentation to ensure audit readiness and operational scalability.
- Identify tax optimization opportunities, including credits, incentives, and process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce tax exposure.
- Develop and execute a multi-year tax roadmap covering technology, policy, and operational improvements aligned with company growth.
- 8+ years of progressive tax experience, including in-house experience in a high-growth or complex organization, with strong exposure to both direct and indirect tax domains.
- Deep expertise in ASC 740, U.S. federal and state income tax regulations, and multistate indirect tax compliance, including nexus and audit management.
- Proven experience managing external advisors and leading cross-functional collaboration in fast-paced, evolving business environments.
- Strong technical background with CPA certification or equivalent (such as JD/LL.M. in Tax), along with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to design scalable tax processes, implement SOX controls, and ensure compliance in a dynamic regulatory environment.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex tax concepts into clear business guidance.
- Experience in SaaS, digital health, or similarly complex, multi-state operating environments is a strong plus.
- Competitive base salary with annual performance-based bonus eligibility
- Equity grants providing long-term participation in company growth
- Remote-first work environment with flexibility and work-life balance
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance with strong employer contributions
- Generous parental leave policies supporting family needs
- 401(k) retirement savings plan
- Flexible time off policy to support rest and personal well-being
- Lifestyle Spending Account (LSA) for wellness and personal development expenses
- Mental health and employee support resources
