This role is a high-impact technical leadership position focused on modernizing enterprise healthcare interoperability systems and driving the evolution of EDI and FHIR-based integration platforms. You will play a central role in designing and delivering scalable, cloud-ready solutions that support critical healthcare data exchange across payers, providers, and partners. Acting as both a hands-on engineer and technical leader, you will guide architecture decisions, define integration standards, and mentor engineering teams. The environment is fast-evolving and mission-driven, with a strong emphasis on reliability, security, and high-volume transaction processing. You will collaborate across product, engineering, and DevOps teams to translate complex healthcare requirements into modern technical solutions. This role is ideal for someone passionate about shaping the future of healthcare interoperability at scale.

Accountabilities:

In this role, you will lead the design, development, and modernization of healthcare integration systems, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performance EDI and FHIR-based solutions.

    • Serve as technical lead for enterprise healthcare integration initiatives involving HIPAA X12 (837, 835, 270/271, 276/277, 278), HL7, and FHIR APIs
    • Define integration architecture standards and ensure engineering best practices across teams
    • Design and implement scalable healthcare data exchange solutions using X12, HL7, and FHIR REST APIs
    • Build reusable frameworks for data validation, transformation, mapping, reconciliation, and error handling
    • Lead modernization efforts transitioning legacy EDI systems to cloud-native, microservices, and event-driven architectures
    • Integrate systems with payers, providers, clearinghouses, and external healthcare partners
    • Partner with DevOps and SRE teams to automate deployments, improve observability, and enhance system reliability
    • Support production troubleshooting, incident resolution, and performance optimization for high-volume systems
    • Mentor and coach engineers while conducting design reviews and enforcing technical standards
    • Collaborate with product and business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions

    Requirements:

This role requires strong expertise in healthcare EDI systems, modern integration architectures, and hands-on engineering leadership in complex, high-scale environments.

      • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 5+ years in healthcare EDI
      • Deep knowledge of HIPAA X12 transactions, HL7 standards, and FHIR-based interoperability
      • Strong programming experience in Java, C#, or Go
      • Experience building REST APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures
      • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines
      • Strong understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases, performance tuning, and high-volume systems
      • Knowledge of healthcare interoperability, data governance, and security best practices
      • Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is preferred
      • Exposure to tools such as Edifecs, XEngine, or related EDI platforms is a plus
      • Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams is strongly preferred
      • Strong communication skills with the ability to bridge technical and business stakeholders

      Benefits:

        • Annual salary of $140,000 plus competitive compensation structure
        • Annual bonus eligibility
        • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
        • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
        • Company-paid life insurance and short-term disability coverage
        • Paid time off, sick leave, and paid holidays including floating holidays
        • Paid parental leave
        • Remote work opportunities across eligible U.S. states
        • Health and wellness programs
        • Career development and growth opportunities
        • Quarterly company-sponsored events and engagement initiatives
