This creative leadership role offers the opportunity to shape visually compelling book and Bible cover designs that resonate with diverse audiences and stand out in the publishing market. You will lead projects from concept to final production, collaborating with editorial, marketing, and production teams to deliver impactful visual storytelling. The position combines hands-on design expertise with art direction responsibilities, including managing freelance creatives and external vendors. Accountabilities:
- Conceptualize, design, and art direct book and Bible covers that align with creative and publishing objectives.
- Lead the cover development process in partnership with editorial, marketing, production, and publishing stakeholders.
- Manage external freelance designers, illustrators, and creative vendors, including portfolio reviews, project assignments, and creative direction.
- Present and communicate creative concepts and design rationale to internal teams and stakeholders.
- Oversee projects through all stages of production, including file preparation, proofing, image licensing, and final production coordination.
- Maintain budgets for assigned projects, process invoices, and manage freelance/vendor contracts.
- Coordinate production timelines and ensure all deliverables are completed on schedule and within budget.
- Upload and manage final artwork assets in internal systems for distribution to external vendors and partners.
- Support overall team workflow and collaborate with other creative leaders to maintain efficiency and meet shared deadlines.
- Degree in Graphic Design or a related creative field.
- 5+ years of professional design experience, ideally including book cover design experience.
- Additional experience leading or art directing external creatives is strongly preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite is required.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Excel is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of publishing workflows, printing processes, and production requirements.
- Exceptional design, typography, and visual storytelling skills.
- Excellent project management, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize effectively, and manage demanding schedules.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to translate creative vision into actionable direction.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills are considered a plus.
- Online portfolio showcasing relevant creative work is required for consideration.
