Job Summary
To provide compassionate religious/spiritual support to employees, students, patients, and patient family members. To counsel individuals seeking guidance and assistance.
Education & Experience
Masters of Divinity from an accredited association of Theological School, and 4 units of clinical pastoral education.
One (1) year of experience as a chaplain in a hospital setting preferred. Experience may not be substituted for educational requirement.
Ecclesiastical endorsement required.
Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required: Certified or eligible for Chaplaincy Certification. Must obtain certification within two years of hire.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of philosophical systems and religions. Knowledge of human behavior. Verbal and written communication skills. Active listening skills. Compassionate interpersonal skills. Knowledge of ethics.
Responsibilities
- Provides counseling and other spiritual education activities for employees, students, and patients.
- Supports the end-of-life care for patients by offering pastoral support and counseling to patients and families.
- Administers religious rites or ordinances; prepares and delivers spiritual care services.
- Studies, interprets, and teaches religious laws, doctrines, and/or traditions.
- Promotes ethical behavior within UMMC and provides consultation on ethical behavior.
- Documents spiritual counseling for patients.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
